It is made of Casting Aluminum Alloy A356T5. This lower housing will not replace the 1978-1980 OMC lower housings with hydraulic shift. This item replaces OMC # 438050.

This is an empty Lower Gear Housing for OMC Cobra Stern Drive V-6 & V-8 Engines from 1986 thru 1993, & 3.0L 4 Cylinder from 1990 thru 1993. This part also fits many Johnson/Evinrude Outboards that use the large case. It fits the V-4 from 1978 thru 2006, V-4 Crossflow from 1983 thru 1996, 60° Loopcharged (1995-1998), and 90° Loopcharged (1985-1998). It also fits many V-6 Applications. V-6 from 1978 thru 2006, V-6 Crossflow from 1979 thru 1992, 60° Loopcharged (1991-2005), 90° Loopcharged (1986-2005). OEM: 439972

Engines (1978-1985); 3.8L/229 CID GM V6 (1981-1985); 4.3L/262 CID GM V6 (1985); 5.0L/305 CID GM V8 (1978-1985); 5.7L/350 CID GM V8 (1978-1985); 5.8L/351 CID Ford V8 (1978-1979) OEM: 987242 NOTES: The GLM28830 complete lower gear housing is a direct replacement for the 1981-1985 OMC lower gear housing. The installation of the 1981-1985 ESA (Electronic Shift Assist) components and shift cable are necessary to replace the lower gear housing on the 1978-1980 OMC sterndrives with hydraulic shift. The GLM # 28830 complete V6/V8 lower gear housing (large diameter) can be used to replace the 1978-1985 four-cylinder lower gear housing (small diameter) if the upper housing gear ratio is changed to 21:20. The installation of the 1981-1985 ESA (Electronic Shift Assist) components and shift cable are necessary to replace the lower gear housing on the 1978-1980 OMC sterndrives with hydraulic shift.
